CREW Year-End Appeal

(Original Corresponsdence sent Dec 2020)

Happy New Year to You and Yours from

 Civically Re-Engaged Women

Dear |*First Name*|

This is YOUR moment.

Here’s why.

Following the historic election of Kamala Harris as the first African-American, South Asian-American, and female vice president, most would say that women’s race to the White House has significantly shortened. Young African-American girls now have the joy of seeing someone who looks like them in one of the land’s highest offices, but the work does not stop here.

According to a study conducted at the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University, we only have 3 women serving on the U.S. Supreme Court, 126 Congresswomen, 2,162 serving in the state legislature, and only 27 female mayors in any of the 100 largest cities across the country. With statistics like these, we have only hit the tip of the iceberg.

As CREW looks ahead to 2021, we are proud to announce the debut of the Ruth Hassell-Thompson Institute for Civic Engagement (RHTICE). The Institute named for a beloved and active former New York State Senator will be another way for CREW to continue its empowerment and commitment to women.

Debuting in February 2021, The Ruth Hassell-Thompson Institute for Civic Engagement will be a series of nonpartisan political programming dedicated to women who have a “fire” in their belly to serve their communities.  The first of its kind, the institute will provide online professional development services from various instructors who all have practical/political experience and knowledge of campaigns/government to share with students.

The Ruth Hassell-Thompson Institute for Civic Engagement will be the catalyst needed to help politicians of tomorrow achieve their goals. However, COVID-19 has forced everyone to take another look at their financial future. As a result, what was once affordable is now seen as a luxury for many. No one should have to miss out on such an essential opportunity to lead and steward their communities due to financial hardship. No donation is too small as we work to provide partial scholarships to candidates looking to jumpstart their political careers, thanks to the Ruth Hassell-Thompson Institute for Civic Engagement. CREW will match your donation dollar-for-dollar as we work to build the RHTICE scholarship fund. 2020 has been a historic year for women in politics, but this is only the beginning!

Let’s keep the year of the woman going. Your gift of:

$25 provides class materials for our incoming class of future politicians

$50 begins to help RHTICE create a digital repository of elected women

$100 affords you a seat at our debut live event in March

$250 provides a partial scholarship for ONE of our students in need

$1,000 affords a full-ride scholarship for ONE aspiring leader and enrolls you into a founding

group of donors granted access to behind-the-scenes planning of the Institute, including a live

     donor event during March

As we aim to host our inaugural semester of the Ruth Hassell-Thompson Institute for Civic Engagement in February 2021, we ask that you act soon, or else we will have to postpone history in the making. The future cannot wait. We hope that we have your continued support as we begin this newest venture and well into the years ahead. Happy Holidays to you and yours, and we will see you in 2021!
